So, if you're new here, you'll wanna get to know the canons, right? Well, you might. We don't consider our canon characters to be any more important with regards to plot and storyline than any of the OCs, but a lot of people already know who they are when signing on here, so here are some mini-bios of our eight canon characters, with links to their profiles, in case you don't know enough about them. (writers, if you want something added to your kids' mini-bio that I missed here, feel free to reply and I will get to adding it ASAP.)

Angel Dumott-Schunard: Angel is a transsexual performance artist who likes to sing, dance, sew paint, and help other people out. She tries very hard to be the "mother" of the group, and in canon, she is clearly the heart of the story. She does not really look like a woman, nor will she angst over not being one, though most everyone refers to her in the feminine. At one point in her past, Angel made some bad choices and wound up testing positive for HIV by the time she was 19. She and Collins married on Christmas Eve, the second anniversary of their meeting, though they have been soul mates since the moment they laid eyes on one another. She is not shy and knows almost everyone in Alphabet City. Also, she is likely to be either in or out of drag just at will.

Benny (aka Benjamin Coffin the Third): Benny was a former roommate to Roger, Mark, and Collins. He marriedAlison Grey of the Westport Greys and left Alphabet City to seek his own ambitious dreams. He has had two short-lived but torrid affairs with Mimi Marquez. Benny is pretty alone, as his friends all think that he's "sold out" since he married a rich girl and moved away. He is still trying to get back into the good graces of his friends. He and Alison are currently pregnant and dealing with a lot of drama around that.

Collins(aka Tom Collins): Collins is a jovial, pot-smoking college professor who teaches philosophy, often of the cyberpunk variety. He's highly intelligent and well-educated, and always up for a good laugh. He's also a self-described anarchist, who has been known to hack a computer system or two in his day. While in graduate school, Collins contracted HIV from a girlfriend who was a closet heroin-junkie. Collins loves a good joke, a good smoke, or an intelligent conversation, so check him out, he's a really cool guy, though a bit on the shy side.

Joanne Jefferson: Joanne is a no-nonsense lawyer who is madly in love with Maureen. The two of them have been together for longer than Angel and Collins with respect to when they met, but they are constantly fighting and on again off again with their relationship, at least in part due to Maureen's constant flirting. Joanne has her kinky side, however, and is learning to make trouble herself in their relationship.

Mark Cohen: Mark is an idealistic filmmaker who seems to be always struggling with the pressure to give in and "sell out." He and Roger have been roommates for years in a drafty and uncomfortable loft at 11th and B, just a block north of the Life Cafe, which used to be an old record factory. He and Maureen used to be a thing, but she dumped him for Joanne.

Maureen Johnson: Is a brash and abrasive performance artist, who has been on again, off again with Joanne. She is mercurial and somewhat selfish, not always thinking of other people before her own desires. By her own admission she is desirable and has an inexplicable allure which most people can see upon meeting her. She also has a need to be the center of attention in any situation.

Mimi Marquez: A Latina stripper, Mimi originally came to New York to be a dancer on Broadway. She got as far as the Cat-Scratch Club in Alphabet City. She was most likely stopped by a series of bad decisions which led her to be a heroin-addict and HIV-positive. Mimi is sensitive and loving, though she tends to hide it under her brash and sometimes vulgar attitude. Mimi and Roger met on the same Christmas Eve as did Angel and Collins and their relationship started out hot and just got hotter. Like Maureen and Joanne, it is difficult to tell if you will find the two of them together or separate, as they strike sparks from each other one way or another every time they are together.

Roger Davis: Roger is a musician who once was on his way to making a name for himself. That was before he got sidetracked by drugs and April. His girlfriend got him hooked on heroin and brought home HIV before she slit her wrists. Left alone with a deadly disease, Roger's solution was to shut himself in his apartment, barely remembering to eat or take his medication unless Mark reminds him. Roger remained broody and alone until he met Mimi on Christmas Eve. She forced him out of his shell and made him decide to live again. Inspired by Mimi, Roger has started to try to write that perfect song which will bring him the fame he has always sought.
